  • Underfloor Heating with Different Heat Sources

Water based underfloor heating can be operated from many different heat sources from traditional boilers to low temperature heat pump systems.

Any method of heating water can be used to run a water based underfloor heating system including gas boilers, oil boilers and even electric boilers.

As heat pumps gain popularity everyone is looking at upgrading their heating system to get the greatest benefit. Water based underfloor heating and heat pumps go hand in hand and are efficient when used together as water based underfloor heating can operate at the lower input temperatures a heat pump can provide.

Both air source and ground source heat pumps can be used with water based underfloor heating.

  • How do I run underfloor heating?

Water based underfloor heating can be run in two main ways.

    Thermostat Programmes

The underfloor heating thermostats can be set with different times and temperatures to suit your property. For example, the heating can be set to come on at 6am at a temperature of 21 degrees. The next programme at 7:30am is set at 17 degrees whilst the house is empty so that if the temperature outside plummets the heating will kick in and ensure the house doesn’t get cold before the next ON period in the afternoon.

    Nonprogrammable

This is when the thermostat is either ON or OFF at a set temperature. For example, if the temperature is set at 21 degrees the system will attempt to achieve this and won’t switch off until either it reaches the set temperature or is turned down at the thermostat.
